Tipping & Bargaining

In general, you don't need to tip anywhere in Taiwan as it is not customary, and in fact the more tipping people do the more it will probably lead to widespread tipping and then it will be customary, but for now it is not expected...Still, even if you try to tip, you will actually be REFUSED by many people (even some Taxi drivers...) as most people are honest and hospitable in Taiwan.

In any case, if you wish to tip in a taxi, at a hotel, or at a hairsalon you can leave the change or a tip of  no more than NT$200 depending on the amount of the service you received.

Many larger hotels and restaurants will automatically include a 10% or larger service charge to your bill and a 5% VAT (value added tax) so you won't need to tip anyway.
