2/28 Peace Park

Located in SW Taipei

Previously called New Park, but changed in 1997 by the current president Chen Shuibian (previously Taipei mayor)

The park memorializes the now-famous incident on February 28th, 1947 when the Chinese Nationalist (KMT) government in Taiwan (under leader Chiang Kaishek) killed thousands of Taiwanese protesters on this day in a military crackdown. (see history section for more...)

Chiang Kaishek Memorial

Located in SW Taipei

A large, white statue of Chiang Kaishek sits in the hall in the middle of this large, classically inspired Chinese memorial. A museum recounting his life and accomplishments is underneath the hall.

Several honour guards stand at attention outside.

The grounds also contain the National Concert Hall and National Theatre.
