Typing Chinese Characters & Using Computers

PC/Windows operating system instructions for viewing Chinese fonts:

If your computer is not running a Chinese version of Windows or some other operating system, you may have trouble viewing Chinese fonts on HTML web pages. If Chinese fonts are not displaying properly on your computer, try these steps in order:

Internet Explorer and Netscape

1. Hit 'view' then 'encoding' then 'more'. Look for 'Chinese Traditional (big 5)'. Click it. If you can't find 'Chinese Traditional (big 5)', procede to #2.
NOTE: For Netscape, hit 'character set' instead of 'encoding.'

2. If there is no Chinese font listed in step 1, you'll need to install it.

You can find it on your Windows 97 or 98 disks, and on other Microsoft software disks.

On the Word 97 disk, it's in the directory Valupack/Fareast.

It may be tucked away somewhere else on other Microsoft disks.

You can always download Chinese fonts for free from Microsoft.

3. If all else fails, or even if it doesn't, you can download everything you need at NJStar and Twinbridge.
