Taiwan has a wide selection of cinemas, and the
major cities have dozens each. Western films play in their
native tongue/language but are all subtitled in Chinese.
Taipei even has a major International Film Festival
annually (last week in November, 'Golden Horse Film Festival'),
as well as some newer, competing film festivals, and even
small groups of independent filmmakers are satrting to pop
up around the island.
Concerts, composed of both Taiwanese & Foreigner
bands, such as the annual 'Spring Scream' (www.springscream.com)
festival in Kenting are held regularly around the island.
There is also no shortage of dance venues, exhibitions
and classes around the island, in almost every style. Aboriginal
dance is very colorful and shouldn't be missed!
Taiwan is home to the greatest (biggest/highest
quality) museum of traditional Chinese art in the world at
the National Palace Museum (it's post WWII history is amazing...).
For Chinese Opera, there is no better place outside mainland
China than in Taipei.
Taiwan TV has a large variety of programming,
infommercials, sex channels, Western movie channels, CNN and
ESL learning shows + public access...) |
